Argueta-Hernandez v. Holder

September 22, 2009

**Asylum; Mara Salvatrucha**

The IJ’s decision denying Argueta-Hernandez asylum is supported by substantial evidence. There is no evidence in the record to compel the conclusion that Argueta-Hernandez was persecuted by the Mara Salvatrucha on account of his religious beliefs; he did not inform them why he did not want to be involved in their group. The record also shows that the Mara Salvatrucha were “motivated entirely by economic gain and a desire to swell their ranks.”
