About this blog
I created this blog to help me keep on top of new immigration case law and to hopefully provide a service to immigration attorneys in and around California, especially solos or those working in small firms, who may not have the time to find and read new immigration cases on a daily basis. I provide a short summary of every new case in the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Ninth Circuit, published and unpublished, pertaining to immigration law. If a case is of interest, you can find the full text of it on the 9th Circuit and BIA’s respective websites. I have also included a search function on the blog so in time it could be a valuable resource in finding a specific topic. I plan to highlight criminal issues so attorneys practicing criminal law may also find this blog useful as well.
You can find cases either by clicking on the categories to the right (published BIA, published 9th Circuit , unpublished 9th Circuit ), by clicking on the calendar to see what cases came out on a particular day, or by using the search engine to look up a case by its name or subject matter.
**Disclaimer: I am only cataloging and providing short summaries of recent case law (often in the words of the court). I am not offering any legal advice!

great idea!!
Great service thank you!
Thanks, Jacqueline! As a criminal defense attorney, I will check your blog regularly for the cases that impact criminal defendants. Very useful and a great idea!!!!
This is a great resource!
Thank you! I am also open to suggestions on how to make it more useful.
I just came across your blog while looking for the X-M-C- decision. Though I am about 98% retired now, I still do some pro bono stuff and teach a seminar in immigration law for the Immigrant Legal Resource Center in San Francisco. Your site is fabulous resource, not only because it calls attention to up to date cases, but because your summaries are written in such clear, easy to understand language that gets right to the heart of the particular issue.
A marvelous improvement over other sources. I will be recommending your blog to others.
Thank you! It really is my goal to be a valuable, and free, resource to the legal community and others working in immigration law. Your comment is much appreciated!
Does anyone know how long the BIA is taking to adjudicate cases these days? We finished briefing a case in July 2009 and still haven’t received a decision.
I’m not sure what the average time is. In the past year, I’ve had decisions come back anywhere from three months to six months, although I also have one that I’ve been waiting for since February!
Hi I read your blog daily and I think its a wonderful resource! I’m wondering if you ever decide to omit certain cases from the blog? I was looking for a particular unpublished 9th Cir. decision Kapoor v. Holder, issued on Dec. 27, 2010, but was unable to find it… Please let me know.
Thank you!!
Hi- thanks for the comment, and I’m glad you find my blog useful! Regarding your question, I have only purposefully omitted a case once in a little over a year- but there is still a record of it. A person involved in the case asked me to take it down for confidentiality reasons- the entry only says K v. Holder and there is no link to the Ninth Circuit. This is not the case you are referring to, however. I was backed up for a few days over the holidays so I will go back and check for that case- thanks for bringing to my attention! It’s been my goal to catalog every Ninth Circuit immigration case since I started the blog and have it up w/in 24 hours of being published, so I definitely want to make sure cases don’t fall through the cracks!
Jacqueline
I just checked- there’s no record of that case on the Ninth Circuit’s website. Was it definitely issued 12/27/10?
why no more updates? the 9th is rolling again…
Been on maternity leave! I’m currently working on catching up with the published cases and will be starting again with unpubs this month!
